Day three: Breakfast, The Goose (the sequel)

The night before, after our delicious meal at The Goose, we discussed the plans for breakfast the next day. Would we have a big breakfast, or skip it altogether in an effort to save our stomachs for the lunch we had planned on Sunday? We decided in favour of food – well, J, TFP and I did. Jac decided she’d rather spend the extra time sleeping. As we paid for our meal, we found out that The Goose serves breakfast from 7am – perfect for travellers’ with lunch bookings!

Bacon and poached eggs, with grilled tomatoes and toast

I decided to go for something (relatively) simple – bacon and eggs, with grilled tomato and toast. It turned out to be an excellent choice – the eggs were perfectly soft and gooey on the inside, the bacon was delightfully crisp, and I loved the thick slabs of toast. But the tomatoes were outstanding – no mean feat when they’re usually either watery or dried out. These were beautifully soft, and perfectly grilled – highlighting the great summery sweet flavour of the tomatoes.

Buttermilk pancakes with berry compote and cream

J was in the mood for something sweet, and went with the pancakes with berry compote. Three huge pancakes arrived (we immediately dubbed them ‘man cakes’) well dressed with berry compote and a generous dollop of cream. The pancakes were light and fluffy, but with eyes much bigger than his stomach, J ultimately left some behind… I also blame the bacon he had from my plate :)

French toast with bacon, caramelised bananas and maple syrup

TFP and I debated whether we should both choose this… she went with it (how could she not?) The plate of toast, bacon and bananas looked magnificent as it arrived, and made my mouth water from the aromas of maple syrup wafting off the plate. She was happy to report that both the bacon and the french toast were excellent, but the bananas weren’t the perfect ripe specimens needed to make the ultimate caramelised banana experience.

We also enjoyed excellent Yahava coffees (a long macchiato for J and a soy flat white for me), while TFP enjoyed a pot of English Breakfast Tea.

All in all, a successful breakfast to keep these hungry travellers going until lunch :)
